Modern Lap Pool and Spa on Everglades Pl, Davis

Project Overview

This Everglades Pl home in Davis sits on a deep, narrow lot with a two-story house set close to one side and a full-height fence running the length of the other. Mature trees line the perimeter, and the covered rear porch looks directly down the yard. The usable space was long and tight, not wide.

A conventional pool shape would have consumed the entire width and left nothing to walk around.

What the pool needed to do:

  • Fit a long, narrow footprint without crowding the house
  • Leave enough deck to move around the full perimeter
  • Work as a lap pool while still functioning as a family pool
  • Sit low so the two-story elevation stayed the dominant vertical element

How the design answered it:

  • A rectangular lap pool running the length of the yard, set parallel to the fence line
  • A spa built into the far end, raised and finished in wood decking so it reads as part of the seating area
  • Large-format stone paving on all sides, giving continuous deck without narrowing the water

Details Built for a Narrow Lot

SHAPE

A long rectangular pool running the length of the yard, set parallel to the house so the narrow lot reads as usable rather than tight.

SPA

Squared into one corner at the far end, sitting level with the pool so the water surface stays continuous across both.

RAISED WOOD WALL

Horizontal wood slats form a raised wall along one edge of the pool, giving the flat yard a back edge and doubling as a seating line.

INTERIOR FINISH

A dark interior turns the water reflective, picking up the trees, the fence, and the house across the surface.

DECKING

Large-format stone paving in irregular sizes surrounds the pool, laid so the joints run with the length of the yard.

RAISED PLANTER

A low planted bed runs along the far edge above the pool wall, keeping green at eye level without taking deck space.
